About the Author

Penelope J. E. Davies is Associate Professor at the University of Texas, Austin. She is a scholar of Greek and Roman art and architecture as well as a field archaeologist. She is author of Death and the Emperor: Roman Imperial Funerary Monuments from Augustus to Marcus Aurelius, winner of the Vasari Award.

Walter B. Denny is a Professor of Art History at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.� In addition to exhibition catalogues, his publications include books on Ottoman Turkish carpets, textiles, and ceramics, and articles on miniature painting, architecture and architectural decoration.

Having used this book in my 2002 Art history class, I can say without reservation that is is probably the best Art History book I have studied. A close second would be the History of Modern Art by Arnason. Countless times I have referred to this book for references to art for my blog and personal works of art. If this isn't you schools text book, it should be.

Simply the Best

I've used an earlier edition when I was in high school and finally got around to purchasing this edition for myself. The editors have always done an excellent job with each addition. The book is rich in information and most up-to-date with the latest information. Each page has graphic elements, from several pictures or multiple diagrams. Though thick and heavy, it's great for the coffee table.

Great coverage and analysis

I used the original Janson when I took art history in college. I bought this for my son and started reading it on my own. What a wonderful rework of this classic. It provides very accessible descriptions of historical context as well as clear presentations of the impact of "technology" (i.e. development of various media) on the ability of the artists of various periods to express themselves. Love this book.

This book provides relevant and useful topics in the current EFL and ESL setting. Raising questions about the ethics involved with teaching English, the "means to an ends" approach by some in hopes of just sharing their faith in God, evaluating whether the fact of being a native speaker alone equips someone for effective teaching of English, the historical perspective of colonization, and much more. This book provides input from a variety of different authors who hold a variety of religious perspectives. A good reflection for any EFL/ESL teacher but especially for Christian teachers as a call to be equipped in their professional vocation.

This book has become my Bible

I've read numerous self-help books but none like Dr. Staples's THINK LIKE A WINNER. This book is solely responsible for my self-reinvention. I feel I'm in debt to Dr. Staples--and his unique way of planting his beneficial anecdotes in one's mind--for invalidating and transmuting all the false, self-destructive beliefs I had about myself. It hasn't been two years since I read the book, and, already, I'm at an advantage in my life--personally and professionally.

Read and then truly think like a winner !

This particular author going by the lack of reviews does not seem to be read as much as the likes of some of the other popular authors he credits. I don't know why as both his books "Think Like A Winner" and "In Search of True Self" are extremely informative and encouraging hitting deep while still being easy to understand. Mr. Staples in my opinion as read and condensed a lot of the famous self help psychology books into his works, with lots of deep and thought provoking wisdom from some of the biggest thinkers from the past, highlighting topics in his books and showing that wisdom as been around for a long time if you are receptive to it. I highly recommend all Walters books.

Life changing potential

This book is unlike any of the dozens and dozens of books on the self-help shelves. And, I've read a lot of them...as I'm in the business of self-help. There is so much gold in this book that can easily and quickly be applied to our daily living. It should be a must read for every student, every teacher, every person. It's worth 100 times the cover price.

John Bird, the author of over 100 textbooks on engineering and mathematical subjects, is the former Head of Applied Electronics in the Faculty of Technology at Highbury College, Portsmouth, U.K. More recently, he has combined freelance lecturing at Portsmouth University, with technical writing and Chief Examiner responsibilities for City and Guilds Telecommunication Principles and Mathematics, and examining for the International Baccalaureate Organisation. John Bird is currently a Senior Training Provider at the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering in the Defence College of Marine and Air Engineering at H.M.S. Sultan, Gosport, Hampshire, U.K. The school, which serves the Royal Navy, is one of Europe's largest engineering training establishments.

Born in India, Carl Ross studied Naval Architecture specializing in stress analysis of pressure vessels. He research has led to a number of advances in submarine technology. How ta use this fine, fine book!

Well, we haven't been reviewin much these days cause we been sa busy around th homestead. But I told Momma I wus gone have ta write a good review a this one. It's been a couple years since we bought it and we've just got around ta usin it in th last six or eight months. This here book is a great problem book for mechanical engineerin on th order a REA's problem books for math an th like. Now it ain't no Cliff's notes. These here problems take some time.but if ya actually want ta learn some engineerin ya gonna haf ta swallow th medicine. It ain't no stand-alone book. Good God! I hope no idiot would think he could read this book and even do th problems and think he wuz a engineer. Now what we use it for is for th 17 year old. He's done algebra, trig and calculus in homeshcool and he wanted ta try a course on mechanical engineering. We got th book Mechanical Engineering Design by Shigley since he wants more a th practical stuff than th theory and we're usin this as a supplement. Shigley's has some great problems and some real meat in it but this book (along with Encyclopedia Britannica, Youtube, Wikipedia {God help us}, and th rest a teh internet.) Now compared ta Shigley's these problems is pretty easy. So, for example, ya go ta Shigley's and read Chapter 2 on Materials. Ya got discussions on strength and stiffness, tensile testin, stress and th like. Well, Shigley's has the plan a showin ya these topics as they relate to design. It expects ya ta know a lot a terms since yer expected ta have had a course in statics, dynamics and materials. Well, if ya want ta do that fine. But we ain't got no public school within about a million miles o us that teach any a these things. Ya ever heard a one? Me neither. Them public school 'taards is lucky if they can read My Pet Goat without soundin out th letters. And we want ta get a head start on college if our oldest decides ta go. So anyway, we use Mechanical Engineering Principles for a problem book ta fill in some back-ground that Shigley's don't provide. This here books has basic definitions for example, it defines stress in a real easy ta understand way. Then it gives ya three or four problems already worked out for ya. Then it gives ya a set a four or so problems ta work yerself. It gives ya the answers on the same page. Ya don't have ta be looking in th back ta check yerself. The problems at the end of the sections can be figgered out from th solved problems in that section. Ya do have ta think though. Whats good about this format is that ya got practically everything ya need on a couple a three pages. Yer not looking back a forth for how ta work a problem or for a definition. Now specifically about this book: Yep yer expected ta know algebra, trig and calculus. What? Ya've never studied em? Well, boo hoo hoo ya wanker. I guess it's time ya woke up and realized ya been effed by th public school system in this here good ol' US of A. Let me be careful how I say this so people that can't do math can understand it: It says ya don't need a engineering background. It don't say ya don't need ta know any math! It ain't writ ta be a engineering text. Read th description carefully and then try th Look Inside feature that th fine folks at Amazon has provided. Oh wait, I'm sorry! In addition ta some basic math background it does require that ya be able ta read on about th eleventh or twelfth grade level. Notice, it's written ta follow a syllabus. It's a problem book fer God's sake!. Now, I'm glad I got that off my chest, let's go on. Th book is in SI units so if ya have a problem with that this is a good way ta get up ta speed with 'em. Now, we've learned SI units in our homeschoolin but of course we don't use 'em much in th shop. Why would we? But if a feller wants ta be educated he needs ta learn how ta use metric. Or for you Murkans and George Bush fans: that fancy French measurin'. Our edition a Shigley's is in SI units so this works out well. Folks, quit bein stupid Murkans afraid ta learn anything, afraid ta work hard, afraid ta look stupid. Roll up yer sleeves, jump inta engineering or business or whatever it is that'll make a man out of ya and learn how ta do somethin.

Says no prior education on the subject is needed but fails to inform you that reader needs background in algebra, calc, trig, and geometry. Reading material is useless without a background in these subjects.

We deal with things such as the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, cremation, hair coverings, the first shall be last, did Jesus die on Friday, God forbid, God’s repentance, healing in the atonement, judging, the letter of the law, Melchizedek, self defense, sinless perfectionism, soul sleep, and the Trinity. Things Hard to be Understood Provides Easy Answers

David W. Cloud has done a masterful job on what will become a standard reference work among Fundamentalists--especially those with an affinity for the KJV. How refreshing to read a book which provides real answers rather than merely changing, adding, or deleting the words of Scripture! Cloud uses sound logic and solid primary sources when presenting his arguments. He is also honest enough to admit some difficult passages evade easy explanation, while defending the integrity of the text. I highly recommend this work as a reference guide to pastors and laymen alike who desire to be ready "to give an answer."

Excellent reference book

I would initially like to say that the person who made the first comment has his/her facts wrong about David Cloud. Brother Cloud does NOT believe that the KJV is itself inspired, but he does believe that it is the most accurate translation we have in English taken from the most reliable manuscripts. He backs this up with very convincing evidence.

I have found this book (and others by David Cloud) to be a very useful addition to my library and I highly recommend it to those who are serious about studying God's Word and imparting that knowledge to others.

The text is a "must read" for those who are interested in Bible apologetics. It is not that the author expresses his opinion, but rather that he cites sources of his comments throughout the book. To those who do not believe and support "sola scriptura" this will be an offensive book as the number one resource is the Word of God to support the Word of God.

The introduction to the book states in capital letters, "WE DO NOT QUESTION THE BIBLE" and that is the foundation of the book, to support biblical teachings. I write this review after reading a previous review which was a critical analysis of the author and not an analysis of the book's content. The book is exactly what it claims to be: "Things Hard to be Understood, A Handbook of Biblical Difficulties" As stated previously, the comments are documented, sources are cited, therefore, they are not the opinion solely of the author.

Alongside his studies, he is working on many projects relevant to robotics, such as drones, home automation, and smart home systems using Arduino and the Raspberry Pi. Furthermore, he is enthusiastic about clean energy solutions and cultural innovation ideas.

He has worked for the University Hospital of Ioannina as an assistant for various computer issues, and he has been part of the support team of his CSE department for over a year. He has participated in IEEE UOI Student Branch and other big organizations, such as FOSSCOMM, with personal presentations for website designing, programming, Linux systems, and drones.

As a member of IEEE University of Ioannina Student Branch, he has proposed many projects and solutions to automate homes and many other life problems by reducing the time of everyday routines. In addition to this, he has come up with ideas to entertain kids with funny and magical projects using Arduino-like hardware and open source software. Vasilis Tzivaras

Vasilis Tzivaras is a software developer and hardware engineer who lives in Ioannina, Greece. He is currently an undergraduate student of the Department of computer science and Engineering at Ioannina. Alongside his studies, he is working on many projects relevant to robotics, such as drones, home automation, and smart home systems using Arduino and the Raspberry Pi. Furthermore, he is enthusiastic about clean energy solutions and cultural innovation ideas. He has worked for the University Hospital of Ioannina as an assistant for various computer issues, and he has been part of the support team of his CSE department for over a year. He has participated in IEEE UOI Student Branch and other big organizations, such as FOSSCOMM, with personal presentations for website designing, programming, Linux systems, and drones. As a member of IEEE University of Ioannina Student Branch, he has proposed many projects and solutions to automate homes and many other life problems by reducing the time of everyday routines. In addition to this, he has come up with ideas to entertain kids with funny and magical projects using Arduino-like hardware and open source software. Many of the projects can be found at his GitHub account under the name of BillyTziv. Apart from this book, he has also worked on another book Programming in C, which is not yet published. SPECIAL KIND OF ARDUINO

Good for general parts, what motors, materials, ideas. The book uses a special sort of arduino that already includes all the GPS/gyrometer...ect and is hooked up to some software.

Only about an 1-1.5 hour read. Worth the read before building a quadcopter.

I'm confused about the title. The book only shows you pictures of the arduino. Doesn't tell you a thing how to build using one.

Michael D. Spiegler (Ph.D., clinical psychology, Vanderbilt University, 1969) has been director of the Community Training Center at the Palo Alto VA Hospital, was on the faculty at the University of Texas, Austin, and currently is Professor of Psychology at Providence College.

David C. Guevremont (Ph.D., child clinical psychology, West Virginia University, 1987) has been on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, in private practice, and presently is a clinical psychologist for the Woonsocket Education Department.

A textbook you'll actually want to read

I needed this textbook for a college course, and found it was very easy to read. We spent a week or so on each chapter, and put into practice some of the concepts, using behavior therapy on ourselves, and I have to say it was actually a lot of fun. Some textbooks can present material in a dry, dull manner, but this one did not have that problem. I also rented it rather than buying it, and had a great experience with Amazon's textbook rental, and saved a significant amount of money.

I was displeased with how this text book was written. Having completed over 6 years of education in the psychology discipline, I was disappointed when I read this text; it just felt poorly written. I would recommend another text if you wish to learn about cognitive behavior therapy.
