What an amazing story. I couldn't put it down

What an amazing story. I couldn't put it down. The writing ability made me feel like I was back in that era. The words are so descriptive I could see clearly see each character and every place she described. And, oh yeah. The sex has a way of weaving so much story into an act that's so hot that I wasn't sure if I was more turned on.

In the beginning and middle of the story, I thought that Karen ended up being a single mother and her son Christopher can't be with his father. I like how Karen handle the whole situation, even though she struggled a lot, but she never give up. She shows of being a strong woman that can handle anything and tried everything works.

The first four of his five sermons included here, which have been published in English (Our Sunday Visitor, 1986), originated as 1981 Lenten homilies given in Munich's cathedral to counter a modern abandonment of creation doctrine based on scripture. A fifth homily by a different translator augments this edition. Ratzinger's sermons treat God the creator, biblical creation accounts, creation of human beings, sin and salvation, and the consequences of faith on creation. The readable but challenging meditations attempt a balance between extremes of fundamentalism and rationalism and emphasize a unity between the Old and New Testaments. Great intro 2 theological implications from Creation Account

This book is a collection of four homilies that were given by Cardinal Ratzinger on the creation account in Genesis. It gives a Catholic understanding of the theological implications from the teachings of creation found in Genesis. Cardinal Ratzinger starts with the importance about the necessity of properly understanding this, and the problems with ignoring the creation account. He shows how you cannot answer the question of "What we do" without first addressing the question of "What we are".
From this he proceeds to give a brilliant understanding of what it means to be a human being. What kind of creature we are and our place in creation. His first homily is based on "God the Creator" and its relevance to the differences between our view of God creating the world and other religions views. He then goes to his second homily "The Meaning of the Biblical Account", which gives a more balanced understanding of creation, and its cultural significance at the time. His third homily, "The creation of the Human Being" gives an understanding of what it means to be human and our place and reasons for being. His fourth, and final homily, "Sin and Salvation" gives and understanding of our nature, and our responsibility in our decision-making. Also touches upon the resurrection and the way it addresses our innate struggles. The book ends with an appendix that briefly goes into certain other semi related topics.
It should also be mentioned that Cardinal Ratzinger addresses the scientific implications of the creation account very little in this book. He addresses the problem in proving that the creation account was never meant to be a strict fundamentalist scientific view of how the world was created. But an actual unfolding, with different aspects given all throughout the bible, that directly addresses certain misunderstandings in other religions at the time and, at the same time, giving us a deeper understanding of our place in the world. He also shows how each account, cannot be separated from the others. And only in looking at the bible as a whole can you get the real meaning of the creation account. With that said, there are certain scientific dimensions that are involved in the creation accounts that cannot be denied. Cardinal Ratzinger briefly addresses this. But does not get into too much detail.
Overall, this book is a short, easy to read, explanation of the Christian understanding of what it means to be a human being, our nature, and our limitations. It gives an often misunderstood understanding of the creation account. This book is highly recommended for anybody who is trying to understand the Christian view of man, and the biblical basis for that.

It is to be noted that from 1981 to 2005, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger held a second job in the Vatican. In addition to being Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, he also served as President of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. The latter board provides oversight for the study of Sacred Scripture within the Catholic church.

This set of homilies on the first chapters of Genesis, in continuity with the great encyclical Humani Generis by Pope Pius XII, sets forth the Catholic approach, which is neither fundamentalist nor rationalist. For example, how long is one of these days of creation? The fundamentalist says 24 hours or you're damned. The rationalist says billions of years or you're a fool. Insightful Expression of Catholic Beliefs

In this collection consists of five separate homilies of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger on the following themes: the Creator, the Biblical account of creation, the creation of man, original sin and faith in creation. This very theological work concisely lays out the Catholic understanding of creation.

Cardinal Ratzinger begins by explain how the passages in Genesis about creation should be interpreted, explaining that they cannot be read in isolation from the New Testament. They must be read with Christ.

He goes on to look at the symbolism found in Genesis, especially the symbolism of the Sabbath day with its meaning as a day of worship. He then goes on to assess human responsibilities to look after the world.

The third homily looks specifically to creation of the human being, arguing that all humans have their origins in the same earth and are all created in God's image and likeness. He argues that Genesis explains that there is one humanity and that through Christ humans can become the children of God. Cardinal Ratzinger then goes on to argue that the Biblical accounts explain what human beings are, whereas the theory of evolution explains how human beings developed. He affirms that the natural sciences explain how the divine project of creation grows.

The fourth homily addresses the issues of sin, human freedom and original sin, explaining that humans cannot save themselves and that Christ instead has redeemed humanity.

The concluding chapter talks about the reception of the idea of creation in modern times. He looks at the suppression of faith, naturalism, nihilism, and gnosticism. He finishes by arguing that the question of creation does matter and that creation is an inseparable part of Redemption.

fascinating

Great book. I'm a healthcare professional, yet I knew very little about the psychosocial aspects of life with cerebral palsy. Dr. Segalman's book is a fast read with fascinating insight into a world most people will never know or understand. Well worth the $12 bucks. I wish I would have went to his website first, because apparently for the same price the author will sign and ship. I'm not sure if that is still the case, though.

An amazing story about Bob's victory over his disability

Having been a friend of Bob's for nearly fifty years, I might be accused of having a bias in strongly recommending this book to all disabled and able-bodied people. But I don't need that bias to say that this book is so important, especially for us 'able-bodied' types.

For those of us who have never lived with a disability, it's impossible to know what it is to live with that disability day in and day out. What is it like to be disabled in all stages of life? What is it like to try to express yourself when your body will never cooperate? What kinds of issues do disabled people have to deal with in all phases of life? For the answer to many if not all of these questions, all you have to do is to read Bob's book.

This book is a story of Bob's life, and how Bob has never let his cerebral palsy define him. His courage and determination to be heard and loved and understood outside of that framework have taught me so much about living my own life.

If you want to get a story about disability 'from the source', you couldn't find a better book than Bob's. And it is told with candor and his always-present well-honed sense of humor.

Bob used his passion to be heard into a non-profit that gives a voice to many people with speech disabilities, Speech-to-Speech ([...] I support them and I hope that after reading this book, you will do the same. Or just do it anyway. There are many like Bob who will benefit from this superb service.

A Collection of Audio Transmissions from the Apollo 13

As is evident by its title, this Cassette contains some of the audio transmissions from the Apollo 13 mission. The Apollo 13 mission was the third attempt to land a crew on the lunar surface; however, due to an explosion onboard the Command Module, the landing was aborted and the crew returned safely to the Earth after many trails and tribulations. The tape presents the transmissions in chronological order and of course contains the most famous quotes from the mission. For example, "Houston we have a problem"," one whole side missing", and "Farewell Aquarius". In general, I feel that most space buffs and those studying the Apollo 13 mission would find this tape fairly interesting, but the short length of the tape, 35 minutes, (plus a 6 minute speech by JFK) is hardly good coverage of a flight that lasted 8 days.
This cassette is also available on Compact Disc.

Diane Ducat is a psychologist who has worked with college students for more than 25 years. Dr. Ducat is a professor at LaGuardia Community College in New York City, where she was a counselor before joining the faculty of LaGuardia's nationally acclaimed internship program.

Dr. Ducat has taught graduate courses in career counseling and has investigated managerial careers as a member of several interdisciplinary research teams. Her consulting activities center on executive coaching. She holds a master's degree in counselor education from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Columbia University.

CAREER DILEMMAS

You want to choose wisely, because your choices will have very important consequences for your life. Yet there are so many issues to consider that it is natural to feel some uncertainty. Read over the list of questions below, and check the ones that are similar to questions you may have.

Which career options really suit me the best?
How can I balance my desire to advance my career with my family needs?
Should I change direction or stay with what I have selected?
Am I too much of a dreamer, never settling on any one direction?
Is it a good idea to continue my education? Now or later? Full-time or part-time? Where can I get the time and money to go on with my education?

In this book I call such questions and concerns "career dilemmas" because they often involve difficult and perplexing issues—they are like puzzles. This book will help you define your own personal career dilemmas and provide you with a method for resolving them. You can become more confident about your future. OVERVIEW OF THE CONTENTS

The scope of this book is comprehensive. Its 13 chapters encompass three major topics: (1) searching for information, (2) setting your career direction, and (3) making your experience count. Each of these topics corresponds to one of the three essential tasks—exploration, specification, and implementation—described by Donald Super in his pioneering work on career development.

Part I: Search for Information

This unit, consisting of Chapters 1-5, focuses on exploration tasks. You'll cover the kind of information you need to make good career choices and see whether an advanced degree or additional training is right for you. The purpose of these chapters is to help you conduct a self-assessment, gather information, and identify suitable career and educational options.

Part II: Set Your Direction

In this unit, I introduce a practical model of career decision making. You are encouraged to "Listen to Your Heart" and "Use Your Head." This balanced approach helps you consider your personal dreams, life circumstances, and economic goals. It also highlights the need to ponder external factors, such as workplace opportunities.

This unit, consisting of Chapters 6-10, engages you in setting your career direction. It addresses three important choices: selecting a college major, choosing a work setting, and making a job choice. It also teaches you effective job search tactics and vital job search skills, such as resume writing and interviewing.

Part III: Make Your Experience Count

Chapters 11-13 are devoted to strategies to advance your career while you are still in college. You'll learn how to test your career choices and increase your earning potential through internships, college jobs, and extracurricular activities. You'll become aware of the skills demanded by the workplace of the twenty-first century and the need for networking. This unit gives you a leg up in acquiring valuable career management skills before you graduate.

ACTIVITIES

Throughout the book you will find lots of hands-on activities to help you conduct a thorough self-assessment, conduct a job search, and 'father information to make informed choices. Most of the research activities use a handy four-step "ASAP" (Ask-Search-Analyze-Plan) format to structure your information search. You'll be introduced to the best career-planning resources for college students, including Web sites, books, and magazines.

You'll also discover shorter exercises within chapters that will help you understand the major points, clarify your thoughts and ideas, and get you ready for the lengthier research and in-depth appraisal activities found at the ends of the chapters.

I emailed the guy twice and he never responded. He didn't tell me when the book was shipped, how, or when I would receive it. I got the book very late and missed almost a month of classwork because of it.
