This is not a "science of how to lose weight" book. There are approximately 10,450,675 books on the market if that's what you want.

What it is ...

This is a real world, field tested, up the mountain-down the mountain story of working up to just this side of 600 pounds ...to near death... and then walking it, running it, biking it back down to 199 pounds. This is a cut the crap, if I can do it, you can do it 148 page kick in the ass.

So buy. Read it. Live it. Do it.

Bryan Ganey is by far the most honest person you will ever listen to when it comes to weight loss and food addiction. Are you ready to get honest, cut the denial and find your life again? Bryan exposes the truth and gets honest about the path that lead to his success telling all his secrets and providing the tools that worked for him.

Bryan exposes the multi billion dollar diet industry and how we fellow food addicts can overcome the barriers to success if we are willing to do the work. Bryan has successfully lost 377 pounds without gimmicks, pills, barbaric surgery, E diets, frozen food, celebrity endorsed weight loss food plans or TV endorsed excessive work out regimes. He has kept it iff for 3 years and proves that it can be done.

His story and the way he conveys his road to success is simply written in a way that you and I can follow and understand. As a woman who has struggled with her weight for 50 years, I find Bryan's suggestions and relateable personal insights to be a cool breath of fresh air. Inspiring: Useful, One Concern

Bryan sent me a copy of the book and asked if I would review it. He found me through my blog at mdprevent.blogspot.com. We've never met, but have exchanged some emails, and have no other relationship. With the book, Bryan sent me a note that really does a great job of summarizing what the book is about. He wrote "This is not a scientific journal or academic study, just my story. I wrote it because I was tired of being told losing the weight on my own was impossible." That sums up this inspirational book better than I could. My only issue with the book, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, is that it ignores the psycho-social reasons why Bryan gained the weight in the first-place. For some people, these psycho-social factors are so entrenched that they can't lose the weight on their own without the help of a psychologist.
Nevertheless, kudos to Bryan that he found a way and if you, like Bryan, can overcome the psychological and social issues on your own that led to your gaining way too much weight, this book offers a good road-map to follow.

Using examples and exercises, this book provides a hands-on approach that walks the reader through the entire process of developing a game from concept to completion. Ideal for introductory game development and game production courses the book covers history, game genre, design, story-telling, character creation, pre-production, code release, career descriptions, and more.

A common conversation in the game producing industry runs something like this:

'I've got this great new game, more than just a game it's a whole new concept that's going to revolutionize the industry.'

'Oh, I'm interested, tell me about it.'

'I can't do that, you might steal my idea.'

'Well then, at least tell me what language is it written in, what does it run on?'

'Oh, it's not written yet.'

What else can you say? The conversation is over.

There are a lot of good ideas. In fact, as this book says on one of the first pages, 'the idea is the easy part; it's turning the idea into an actual playable game that's the hard part.' This book is about the hard part, primarily that is the design of the game with a bit on production and marketing. It's an excellent introduction to how the industry really works, and yes, it is an industry with players like Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo huge companies with billions of dollars in annual revenue, thousands of employees.

This is not to say that there isn't room for new talent to come into the industry. There's always a need for good people and this book will help you if this is where you want to be.

Extremely poor textbook

I would give this book zero stars if it were allowed as it has made my semester unbearable. Not only did the author totally confuse me, but the editor of the book did a HORRIBLE job. This is my first class in programming and it almost makes me want to say forget it. If you are not required to purchase this book as I was, stay far away from it. There was one instance in the book when I spent over an hour working on a problem only to find out that the code that was provided was incorrect. While working through the chapters, the author would build on one project throughout each chapter. This caused you to have to make changes to the earlier solutions of the project. Therefore, if you ever got to a point where you wanted or needed to go back and look at it when you knew it was correct or just go over it again, you were not able to do so. The supplemental teaching materials that provided answers to the review questions at the end of the chapters had incorrect info. Imagine that...even the answers were wrong. In the beginning, I expected to be able to go to the author's website to find errata information, but there were no links provided from the publisher's site and I could not find the author's website even after searching for him on Google. I am sad to say that I have learned absolutely nothing from this book, so I still know nothing about PHP and MySQL. I have wasted my time and effort, not to mention money for tuition and this horrible textbook. I've been directed to other books and have found them to be much more helpful for a beginning programmer. Try PHP 5 / MySQL Programming for the Absolute Beginner (For the Absolute Beginner), PHP For Teens or Foundation PHP for Dreamweaver 8. But whatever you do, steer clear of this book unless you want to be totally confused. Now, you have been properly warned.

Poor quality coursework

This book is aimed towards instructors and students. It is written in the style of a typical textbook. While the format is useful, the content is lacking clear direction especially when it mixes up how different usage is expected in Unix and Windows environments (or IIS and Apache). For beginners the text will be confusing as it jumbles together concepts. Additionally all the "Hands On Projects" are entirely spelled out. There is no creativity towards implementing the projects. The Case Projects generally are just the same ideas as the Hands on Projects and can be replicated easily.

As for the installation and configuration chapters on php and mysql, it would be useful to actually include pitfalls as many beginners would not know where to look for help if they were to get confused.

For ~$61, this book is overpriced, confusing, with incorrect information. PHP Solutions: Dynamic Web Design Made Easy from Friends of Ed may be a better option for professors looking for a book to use in the classroom.

Avoid this book, seriously

I'm almost through my introductory PHP class, and the bottom line is that I would absolutely avoid this book.

A few caveats about online reviews: They are skewed b/c most people don't bother to write unless they are really mad or really happy about a given product. I'm obviously in the later category. Separate out my tone and emotion if you can. But here are the facts:

1. The book is riddled with typos and straight up errors.
2. The author never bothers to correct them. I still haven't found where errata are on his website.
3. Gosselin uses terms that he never bothers to define first. Who's Gosselin? The author of the book. My point exactly.
4. Some of the examples of the code just don't work. Because of the number of errors in the book, I can't be sure if it's just Gosselin's problem or my own. This can not be overstated b/c the last thing a student wants is to work for hours on a problem only to realize that it wasn't his/her problem to begin with.
5. The writing style is extremely dry, dense, and ambiguous. Make no mistake, this is not a user-friendly book.
6. The index is poor and there are no tables of commonly used functions/methods/ and other syntax that most textbooks have. It's hard to find anything.
7. Price: too expensive, but that's par for the course with Thompson Technology books.

About the Author

Thomas Larsson trained as a construction engineer, but in 1974, he changed careers and began renovating wooden boats. Sailing and boats have always been of interest to him. Since 1994, Larsson has written highly popular and informative articles about wooden boat restoration for Veteran Boat. This book is based on these articles and Larsson's extensive background in restoring wooden boats. He resides in Sweden.

Not sure that this is really about the basics. Mr. Larsson seems to use a lot of jargon that, I believe, is unique to his own shop. Several other books out there that provide, in my opinion, more thorough and better-explained techniques. (Jim Trefethen's book comes to mind.)

Great info!

Great info., and she has all the products listed on her site so you dont have to hunt them down. You may be able to get some cheaper on Amazon or other sites but when I checked Amazon compared to her prices she had better pricing on several products I cross checked. This girl knows her stuff! Highly recommend her book!
