Wonderful Resource!

I am new to Reiki, having a million and one questions about the healing energy and how to use it. My main focus is helping animals with Reiki, but this book is a wonderful resource, filled with information that helps you understand Reiki, understand the attunements, and gives you lots of information about practicing Reiki. I enjoyed the additional uses information, such as giving Reiki to your plants, trees, appliances, and lots of other things. I plan on trying some of these additional uses along with practicing Reiki on myself and family and friends. If you are looking for a great resource, then get this book! You will not be disappointed.

The Best Reiki book -- hands down!

Before and after being Reiki atuned, I have read many books on Reiki from the library. In my opinion of all the books I read, Reiki for Life by Penelope Quest was the best. This book explained the techniques and is helpful in creating one's own techniques. This is the book on Reiki I am now purchasing to keep in my library for reference.

Great read for anyone interested in Reiki

Rented this book from our local library and loved it so much I had to purchase my own copy. I'm newly certified in Reiki Level 1 and have found energy work fascinating! This book was very informative and full of great explanations of what Reiki is all about, and the process it takes to become a Reiki practitioner right up through becoming a Master. Would use this book to go back & reference the different hand positions and other useful information. I will definitely pursue Reiki Level 2 and use this book as a guide to help learn the sequence of using the symbols & memorizing the mantras as well as the techniques based on the Usui teachings.

About the Author

Shelley D. Lane (Ph.D., University of Southern California, 1982) is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Texas at Dallas. She has approximately 35 years of university and college experience that combines publication, teaching and administration. She is the author of Interpersonal Communication: Competence and Contexts, 2nd Edition, also published by Pearson Education,and a memoir, A Stirling Diary: An intercultural Story of Communication, Connection, and Coming-of-Age. Lane was selected as a Minnie Stevens Piper Professor, which is themost distinguished higher education teaching award in Texas.

Ruth Anna Abigail (Ph.D., University of Southern California, 1982) taught at Azusa Pacific University for 30 years, retiring in 2012 as faculty emeritus. She is the author (with Dudley D. Cahn) of Managing Conflict through Communication, 5th Edition, also published by Pearson Education. In addition to her research in the area of communication, Abigail is an artist whose textile work has been displayed both in the US and abroad. She recently accepted a position with the State of New Mexico as a trainer. One of her most frequently taught classes is on civility and ethics in the workplace.

John Casey Gooch (Ph.D., Texas Tech University, 2002) is Director of Rhetoric and Writing and Assistant Professor of Literary Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas. For almost 20 years, he has taught courses in professional speaking, technical writing, and rhetoric. He has published articles in IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication and Rhetor: Journal of the Canadian Society for the Study of Rhetoric; his piece on rhetoric pedagogy will appear in the forthcoming Oxford Studies in Rhetoric: A Report from the Interactive Seminar on Rhetoric and the 21st Century from Cambridge Scholars Press.

Considering Conventional Gear? Read This First!

This book was recommended to me by a flight instructor who specializes in conventional (taildragger) instruction. I read it in a few nights and understand why the instructor felt it to be foundational.

Plourde (now deceased) knew what he was talking about and makes the basics very accessible and more than slightly entertaining. His proofreader should have been fired, but if you're reading this for grammar and punctuation, you're missing the point.

Through the use of diagrams, stick models, great stories and confessions, Plourde makes honest comparisons between taildraggers and the now-more-common nose-gear-equipped aircraft, and cites the advantages (and disadvantages) of each. He even goes into the some of the quirks of some of the taildraggers with which he had experience, to make it clear not every taildragger handles like every other.

Every pilot and instructor will gain something from the book, particularly about the proper way to deal with crosswinds - even in tricycle gear aircraft. And all will gain respect for skilled taildragger pilots.

Great book for teens and younger, but story is dated.

I read this as a youngster and loved it. It's about Jack Strong, a boy, who gets to go on the first ship to Mars.But the story line is a bit dated, for today's readers, as the Lodestar takes off for Mars on June 1, 1971!

The first full length novel I ever read as a child. Reasonably correct ( for the era ). An excellent read for the beginning Sci Fi reader. I have searched libraries for 20 years to rediscover it!

Lodestar Rocketship to Mars

I still have a copy of this book from 1952. I read it as a 9 year old and loved it. It has a similiar plot to the 1952 early space exploration film FLIGHT TO MARS which I also loved. Wonder if the writer saw the film prior to writing the book ? It's dated but still holds a nostalgic charm the way the television shows Tom Corbett-Space Cadet and Space Patrol does.

Less than ethical

This is a revised version of an earlier edition published in 2000. It reviews the status of superstring theory in general and supersymmetric gauge theories in particular.

The 2000 edition makes concrete experimental predictions that did not materialize. Rather than comment on why the original predictions have failed, or give a rationale for why we should nonetheless persist in pursuing supersymmetry, the new version simply re-writes these predictions. There is no mention of any earlier failures or any motivation for the updates.

I just happened to stumble upon this site and read some interesting comments. The bloger basically says that the ''new'' book is a revision of an older one with the old claims deleted as they were not proved by the experiments.

Terrible Book

I picked up this book because it promised to tie supersymmetry to Higgs physics and I put it down due to the terrible writing and obvious errors.

The author did produce some clear and concise paragraphs in each chapter, but other paragraphs were rambling streams of consciousness with no coherence and often with grammatical mistakes. Some analogies were downright incorrect; the earth going around the sun explains the seasons, not the appearance of the sun every morning in the east. Further to this, the author's grasp on physics seems to be lacking at times, mixing up Special and General relativity phenomena and he was not once succinct about the parts of the Standard Model and never showed a full description of supersymmetry particles.

The author claims that compacted M Theory predicted the exact mass of the Higgs boson, but does not offer any proof of this or a direct reference. I mistakenly thought this book was about supersymmetry not M/String theory.

There are good books on supersymmetry, this is not one. I could not finish it and did not find anything useful about Higgs physics in the parts I read, only vague claims of predictions.

Some good information

If you like to read of others adventures, rather than making your own, then you will find the writing style to be generally good though not engrossing. There is some good information in here if you are interested in Andean mysticism or mysticism in general. However the information around the mesa is not complete and there are important points missing.

Yes there are some exercises in this book. Those may be good for someone new to mysticism. But there is no substitute with going to the Andes and studying with a master teacher directly. If you are really drawn to Peru, GO ALREADY !!! I've been there twice and to Bolivia and these trips were life changing.

I really could not tell from the book what the authors core expertise was, her philosphy, or the core message in this book beyond some adventures and some exercises.

I thought that this book Initiation: A Woman's Spiritual Adventure in the Heart of the Andes at least within a similar genre of adventure tales, if you are into that, had more real information about places that you would want to go in Peru.

If you want a solid book from someone who lives in the culture 24x7 then this is the best book out there today Andean Awakening: An Inca Guide to Mystical Peru.

Wonderful Story

Not only did I enjoy this story immensely, I am now reading her second book while staying at the Retreat Center Paz y Luz that she founded and discusses in this story. I felt very moved by her description of the struggles she went through trying to discover her true path and how her teachers Regis and Sergio guided her through them. I found myself deeply absorbed in the tales, nodding in understanding, laughing aloud or even weeping in recognition of the very human foibles she confronted in herself. These reactions indicate to me a wonderful storyteller who weaves a powerful tapestry of experience that speaks to all who genuinely seek greater self awareness and connection to Life. Highly recommend this book.

Sweet, Powerful, Personal

This is a lovely accounting of Diane Dunn's spiritual journey to Peru by way of South Africa. The best part of the book is her heartfelt rendering of the circuitous journey of the spirit. My least favorite part of the book were the self help exercises... frankly they felt like an add on, and just didn't work for me. However they were a very small aspect of the whole and didn't detract from the overall power of a personal story of growth and spiritual redemption. This book certainly makes me want to hop on the first plane to Peru!

Mediocre, it could be better

This is a good book. It's clear and concise and really helps students learn. However, I got this book from my local bookstore for a dollar less than what you're advertising it for and I didn't have to pay credit card and/or shipping and handling fees. The book is good, but the price is not.

The book is very good. The condition with which book came is better than a new one. I am very much pleased. Thank you for sending the book in mint condition. The book arrived in three days although the book seller said seven days.
