I will not read this to my child and would never recommend it.

I am so sorry I purchased this book. I was so excited because the boy on the cover resembled my multiracial son.
Half, if not more, of this book was focused on self hatred. How he hates his curly hair and his ugly brown eye. That the boy hates to be mixed.
I will not read this to my child and would never recommend it.

So excited to share this book with my daughter but couldnt even do that because the layout of the book was so negative. one page saying "please take the mix out me". Yes children who are mixed may feel different but the author needed to go about in a more positive way instead of having every page being things that the child hates about themselves. Returning it!!

AMAZING BOOK!

This is a FANTASTIC BOOK! My wife and my son read it almost every night. He really enjoys looking at the illustrations, but even at four he already has a better understanding that it doesn't matter that he comes from two different racial backgrounds. This book really made it easy for us to start the conversation about the physical and cultural differences in our family and focus on the love that we have as a family. Even my in-laws have become more accepting after reading this book, as they see the importance of celebrating our child and that there are more outlets than ever that cater to these differences. My niece who is fully African-American liked the book so much that she was asking why she couldn't be mixed race. I did tell her that in a sense we are all mixed race and that this book is for everyone! A MUST BUY FOR ALL families, you will not be sorry!
