In his junior year at a public high school, sweet, bright Casey Minton's biggest worry isn't being gay. Keeping from being too badly bullied by his so-called friends, a group of girls called the Queen Bees, is more pressing. Nate De Marco has no friends, his tough home life having taken its toll on his reputation, but he's determined to get through high school. Zander Zane's story is different: he's popular, a jock. Zander knows he's gay, but fellow students don't, and he'd like to keep it that way.
No one expects much when these three are grouped together for a class project, yet in the process the boys discover each other's talents and traits, and a new bond forms. But what if Nate, Zander, and Casey fall in love-each with the other and all three together? Not only gay but also a threesome, for them high school becomes infinitely more complicated and maybe even dangerous. To survive and keep their love alive, they must find their individual strengths and courage and stand together, honest and united. If they can do that, they might prevail against the Queen Bees and a student body frightened into silence-and even against their own crippling fears.

"Underneath his sparkly surface there's a whole thick level of a damaged soul. I know this, because I got to see it."
Wow, what a story.
My love for all things m/m/m is no secret and when I saw Mia Kerick wrote one and a YA one at that, I knew I just had to read it.
... she has young, hurting and healing down solid.
This book is full of feelings and emotions, it had me running the gamut on all of them. From anger and fear to indignation and such sadness but also happiness and hopefulness, by the end I was just a melting puddle of Mandy.
Hearts on Fire Review
As I've come to realize, this is an author to keep my eyes on because she's constantly pushing the boundaries and I've yet to not adore her work.
I can seriously give the author major kudos for beginning this book with a scene right out of my own nightmares with teenage girls. Whoever said all that crap about girls and kittens and spice, didn't know the girls I knew and obviously Casey knows. Girls are a hundred times more vicious and backstabbing than boys could even dream of being.

I totally lost myself in this book, it's a sad tale, especially as one of the sweetest characters ever, is the target of the most vicious bullying I've experienced in the pages of a book, but I liked how Mia showed us Casey's struggles with his emotions, and how he grows as a character, opening up to the friendship and love of both Nate and Zander, who despite having personal issues of their own, they are there for Casey. ... incredibly endearing and I just loved them so much.

Wow!
By Caveat Emptor
I am so impressed with this book! Mia Kerick created something that I thought I'd like well enough based on the preview but am happy to say I love. It is definitely a story that you'd want to purchase on a day where you have nothing planned and plenty of time to read because it is one you will not want to put down. There were many situations and characters that could have potentially turned into stereotypes or turned into a bad read but fortunately Kerick's writing prevents that; she is a true master of her craft. The story is told from three perspectives, and even goes a bit further than that in each point of view is told through a different medium: Casey's side is written from his daily life, Nate expresses events in his diary, and Zander conveys the story through emails to his older brother. Each character is given a distinct voice and I had no trouble at all getting into the flow and set up of the story.
The events take place throughout the boys' junior year of high school. Added to the normal struggles teens face at that age are broken families; discovering one's sexuality and orientation; entering not only a relationship, but a relationship with two other people; and cruel and severe bullying, which another reviewer aptly stated was this book's primary conflict. Despite all of these heavy emotional and distressing elements, nothing felt saccharine, artificial, or contrived. I believed what I was reading, even though I know in real life three teenage boys coming to terms with being gay or bisexual while simultaneously entering a menage relationship is probably more difficult than what is portrayed. However, this is where Kerick's talent as a writer shines, in making something that can easily be turned into an eye-roller something that is easy to accept.
Additionally, refreshingly, the bullying scenes were not your typical ones found in most m/m books. They were perpetrated by a clique of teenage mean girls and no two bullying events were exactly alike, keeping the story dynamic and realistic.
There are a few steamy scenes, definitely enough to satisfy but not overly explicit. As Kerick states in her "About Me" at the end of the book, her first focus is on creating love between the characters, and then sex. I love how she focuses on plot, not smut, but still finds appropriate times to include a little erotica.
I really don't have any complaints for this book. However, one neutral-ish thing is that the relationship felt more like Nate and Zander, while attracted to each other and okay with being intimate with one another, were both in love with Casey and were only dating each other by association. I believe this is probably representative of a real polygamous relationship, but those looking for a more clear-cut, truly "equal" threesome might be left wanting more. However, that's just my take on it and others may feel differently. In no way should this discourage you from buying this book.
Us Three is such a great find. I considered putting off buying because of the length (for the price, I prefer books over 200 pages) but the 176 pages turned out to be perfect! The characters were endearing, the situations were incredibly realistic, and the writing was outstanding. The plot is intriguing and this is a great story that brings attention to the all too common bullying that LGBT youth face, particularly in high school. Final verdict--do not hesitate to buy this book!
I'm glad to see Kerick has a few other books available on Amazon. I can't wait to check them out and look forward to seeing what she produces next. On another note, if you loved this book and want to read another amazing m/m/m book, then I suggest checking out Lovegames by M. Jules Aedin. While the plot is very different, many of the characteristics that make Us Three amazing are present in Lovegames as well. Happy reading!

Incredible!

This is a great coming out story of three very unique young men. It tells of how they look out for each other by standing up to the mean girls and how they fight bullying by starting an anti-bullying club at their school. The characters are very believable and well-developed. The issue of bullying is at the forefront of the novel and each of the main characters deals with it in different ways but they all work together in the end. I have now read three of Ms. Kerick's books and this is the best!

Heartwarming Struggle for Tolerance, Commitment and Love
By Connie Parrott
I am as far from young adult as one can possibly be, but I've decided to vary my reading tastes to see what's out there. I stumbled onto my first experience with Mia Kerick in Us Three, and I am so glad I found her. This book moved me more than anything I've read in 30 years. I can remember witnessing bullying in high school and how it frightened me. Kerick's story of the bravery of three unlikely friends, Casey, Nate and Zander proves that tolerance is possible among young adults. We older generations can learn much from the levels of commitment shared by these three young men. I loved how Kerick had each boy share his story in a unique format: Casey in a daily life recitation, Nate in his diary, and Zander in emails to his brother. The cruelty shown Casey by a hateful girl clique is revealed in acts of extreme bullying. Other writers might have been tempted to lead Casey to the darkness of thoughts of suicide, but Kerick strives to weave elements of humor into her story, which lightened the plot and gave this reader a sense of hope. The emotional depth for all three main characters is brilliant and heartrending. The commitment and eventual love shared by Casey, Nate and Zander brought tears to this reader. I would think Kerick's story would provide inspiration and hope for young people struggling to come to terms with their sexuality. I'd recommend Us Three as required reading in high schools. If this book stopped one act of bullying and inspired one commitment to tolerance, then Kerick has succeeded. Us Three certainly moved my little corner of the universe.
