Gr 11 Up--This series title begins with a brief biography that places the poet in the context of her times. It is followed by eight scholarly essays by renowned authors and critics such as Joyce Carol Oates, Adrienne Rich, and Allen Tate. They explore Dickinson's puritan heritage, her eccentric lifestyle, and her rank among the world's great poets. The next section consists of poetic analysis, and the final chapter is made up of eight essays that offer insights into "Dickinson's Poetic Themes." While this is not an introductory work, the volume will be a valuable aid for students seeking critical analyses of the poet's work. The scholars flatly contradict one another, which can be thought-provoking for informed readers, but may be frustrating and confusing for neophytes.

Disappointing
By Katrina
This is a pretty book and just what I was looking for--except for the text! You wouldn't think you'd have to worry about translations of poetry written in English, but with Dickinson you do. Almost all of the poems in this book are taken from versions in which Dickinson's distinctive punctuation was standardized and even some of the words changed.

My granddaughter loves these books!
By NLV
I've been buying these Poetry for Young People for my 11-year-old granddaughter for her birthday, Christmas, etc. She loves reading them when she goes to bed at night. I'll keep buy them for her until she has all of them!

Page turning poetry
By Stella de Vulder
what this little book does very nicely is make great poetry very accessible. The format is designed with 'young' people in mind, however I left my copy on a shelf during a recent family gathering and it was my 40 year old daughter who picked it up and without referring to her own children picked out her favourite poem.
This is a book for everyone, if you don't already know, Emily Dickinson is one of the explorers of human nature, and every other form of nature.
Finally, my favourite poem is Revery.
